---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Oxnard CA 5-10-16) Ventura Raceway continues its 2016 season this weekend at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility with a full program of short track racing. This week we get back to our regular VRA/IMCA competition after our USAC special event last week. Tonight we feature our VRA 360 Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds and the winged California Lightning Sprints. Racing has been top notch so far this season and tonight should be no exception.
In VRA 360 Sprint Car action this week all the top drivers in this series will be here to get back to the task at hand. Going for the 2016 season championship. Rick Hendrix leads in the points race as we resume VRA racing this week. Saturday night he will be back to try to get his first win in 2016 against the best VRA drivers including Jeremy Ellertson, Luis Espinoza, Guy Woodward, Rick Hendrix, Tommy Dunkel, Chris Meredith and many others. These drivers will thrill you as they approach 80 MPH on our 1/5 mile clay oval competing in 10 lap heat races, semi mains when needed and a 30 lap feature.
VRA Dwarf action on April 30, saw Johnny Conley take the win in their 20 lap main event. The 2015 Dwarf Car Champion is back on track to take another championship in 2016. This season the VRA Dwarf cars are loaded with young chargers who have come a long way in this series. Brandon Wiley, Tommy Velasquez III, Nick Velasquez, Gage Cheek, Chase Lippert, Kody Cowen, Trenton Morley and others are the changing face of VRA Dwarf car competition. When added to the many other fine drivers who have raced for many seasons, this series is in good hands. Other drivers scheduled to compete include the Conley family racers, Johnny, Tim and dad David, point leader Jeff Fillingame, Tommy Velasquez, Tom Stephens Jr., Jason Horton, and many others.
The last IMCA race on April 30, saw Mike Kirby return to Ventura Raceway to take the win in Modified action. He ran a strong race to take his first main event at Ventura in 2016.
